Village Baptist is organizing a 6-day Beloved Community Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Montgomery and Selma, Alabama. This will be a journey that braids together faith, history, and our present-day calling. Whether you're deepening your theology of justice, confronting history you were never fully taught, or simply following a quiet pull in your spirit, this trip was made for you.
This isn't a vacation: it's a pilgrimage. The difference is that you return changed. Our journey will hold space for:

At Village Baptist Church, we believe God calls the church to reflect a vision of community marked by justice, compassion, and reconciliation. We often describe this vision as the Beloved Community, a way of living together where every person is valued, every voice matters, and love actively works to heal what division has broken.
The idea of the Beloved Community was popularized by Martin Luther King Jr., who envisioned a society where racism, poverty, and injustice are replaced by cooperation, dignity, and shared flourishing. For us, this vision grows out of the gospel itself—the good news that in Jesus Christ, God is bringing people together across every boundary.
Living into the Beloved Community means we seek to be a church where people of different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives can worship, learn, and serve side by side. It means listening to one another, telling the truth about injustice, and working toward a world that more closely reflects God’s kingdom.
We know this work is ongoing. But we believe the church can be a place where reconciliation begins, friendships deepen across difference, and the love of Christ becomes visible in our life together.
