BAPTIST CHURCH - Choir Director Position

share? Do you have some training and experience with church
choirs? Can you spend some time most weeks sharing your talents
with a choir for a small, vibrant, growing Baptist church?
If your answer is "Yes," then consider applying for the
position of Choir Director for Village Baptist Church in Bowie,
Maryland. Our long-time, dedicated Choir Director has recently
retired, and we are seeking someone to fill this position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
I. Primary
Responsibility
The primary responsibility of the Village Baptist Church choir
director is to lead the adult choir in music to enhance and promote
worship of the congregation for Sunday morning worship services and
programs of special emphasis, including Maundy Thursday, Thanksgiving
Day, and Christmas Eve services. This responsibility shall be
accomplished through collaboration with the pastor and the Worship and
Music Commission.

Background and Qualities
• Formal training in choral music direction at
Baccalaureate level
• Demonstrated support of Christian values, and
commitment to use choral music in enhancing the VBC congregation’s
worship experience.
III. Specific Duties
1. Select music for choir responses and anthems
for the traditional (second) Sunday morning service and during special
services as listed above.
2. Conduct choir rehearsals to prepare the choir for
singing.
3. Maintain the music library.
4. Lead the choir in responses and anthems, and lead
the congregation in singing of hymns during the second service.
5. During the summer, help plan special music for the
combined worship service.
6. Coordinate with the pianist(s) and organist(s) in
preparation of instrumental accompaniment for the second service.
7. Arrange for a substitute to assume the duties of
Choir Director during scheduled leave days, and arrange for a
substitute pianist or organist as needed.
8. Arrange for tuning of the pianos.
9. In cooperation with the Worship and Music
Commission, prepare an annual music budget for the choir.
Purchase new choir music using this budget.
10. Communicate regularly with the pastor and the
Worship and Music Commission to be aware of special needs such as
communion, baptisms, ordination, and special emphases.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary is negotiable, depending on experience and details of
duties to be performed. It is a part-time position, nominally 10
hours per week. The base salary would be at least $600 per
month. Salary is paid bi-weekly.
The position is covered by Social Security.
The position includes 4 weeks paid vacation per year.
Village has a pianist and a substitute pianist. We also have one
organist and several substitutes.
The choir has a music budget of $1200 per year for new music.
Funding is available for music workshops.
